The Unhappy Valentines Day Project – The Final Song

The Unhappy Valentines Day Project has made it all the way to the end. Today, I give you my all time favorite song to wallow to.

There are a few years in the 90’s that I refer to as my “Black” period. That’s the period where I would turn the lights off, put this song on repeat and sit in the dark for hours. It made for some great poetry. It was also before the meds!

Ironically, this song is not usually included on the love sucks/breakup mix-tapes that I put together. The last thing you want to hear after a breakup is this song! This is the song you listen to privately.

It’s also one of the best songs to experience live.  The collective sorrow of the crowd singing along to every word up until the very last note is both heartbreaking and eloquent.

I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life
I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky
But why, why, why can’t it be, can’t it be mine?

This year, skip the store-bought Valentine’s and craft these DIY crayons for your child to hand out in class instead.

Hands down, my favorite Pearl Jam song. For deeply personal reasons which I see you know all too well yourself.
