I try to read everyone’s About page. It’s usually the first place I go after following a blog. Most people write up a complete bio. I didn’t write up a complete bio. Mine is short and sweet. It reads:
Just a Goth, Metalhead, New Waver, Rivethead, Indie Chick.
That about sums me up!
And, that does about sum me up. I listen to all types of music and I identify with all of the above genres and the cultures they’ve created. Due to that, I don’t fit into any one “scene” comfortably. I’m comfortable in all of them. I listen to a lot of artists that are out of the mainstream. For a while I was even writing for the Goth/Industrial e-zine COMA Music Magazine. But, I also love The Bee Gees, Sarah McLachlan and Adele.
Music is so much more to me than background music, it’s the soundtrack to my life. I associate times and places with songs and bands. I recall the year something happened by what song or band we were listening to at the time. Ex-boyfriends are described by what their favorite groups were. Every song I own, I own for a specific reason; even if that reason is the lead singer is hot!
Every song says something about me. The fact that my music collection is filled with songs about love gone bad, nihilism, angst, sarcasm and pessimism basically tells you everything you need to know.
I was thinking of updating my About Page but I thought of something a little more fun and probably more accurate than I could ever write up. My iTunes library is a very scary place so I figured I would set it to shuffle and list the first 10 songs that pop up. Whatever songs make the list should give you an idea about me.
*I got out of hand so here are 15 🙂
Donna Summer – Bad Girls
Never Again – Kelly Clarkson
You’ll Find a Way – Santigold
Seether – Veruca Salt
Rush – Big Audio Dynamite
The Outsider – A Perfect Circle
We Are The People – Empire of the Sun
Gold Dust Woman – Fleetwood Mac
Bring the Noise – Anthrax with Public Enemy
Born to Lie – Mesh
Sex (I’m a…) – Berlin
The Hand That Feeds- Nine Inch Nails
Pretty In Pink – The Psychedelic Furs
A World of Fantasy – Triumph
Violet – Hole
So there you have it. If you Google them and listen to these songs you’ll learn a little about me. It’s not the whole picture but it’ll give you an idea. I’m just glad Tiny Tim’s Tip Toe Through The Tulips didn’t pop up. It always does when I shuffle my iTunes. It’s so embarrassing how much I love that song. (This is the song that tells you I’m a dork!)
Now this list is far from my favorite songs or songs that are most important to me. No. Those lists are extensive and require their own posts. Their very own, very long posts. In fact, my second favorite band, Pearl Jam, didn’t even come up; which gives me an idea. In the future, I may choose a song and write about how it came to be in my collection. Oh, there are so many stories.
I think I just may do that. But, what I’ve decided not to do, is update my About Page right now. A Goth, a Metalhead, a New Waver, a Rivethead and an Indie Chick is exactly what I am.
So intriguing! Now I feel like I know you so much better!

My whole life is a soundtrack. I quote lyrics daily even if most people have no idea what I’m talking about.
